Dr. Allen Wachter received a DVM degree from Cornell University in 1981. He brings to Wendell Veterinary Clinic 33 years of veterinary medicine and surgical experience. Prior to joining our team in March 2015, he co-owned the Animal Hospital of Sullivan County (Ferndale, NY), and also practiced at Valley Veterinary Associates (Sidney, NY), Connecticut Veterinary Center - E/R (Hartford, CT), and Abundance of Care Veterinary Hospital (Monticello, NY).
Dr. Wachter recently retired as an associate professor at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Delhi. In addition to his veterinary career, Dr Wachter is also a Fullbright Scholar. He has an interest in geriatric veterinary medicine, preventive veterinary care, as well as ophthalmology. Dr. Wachter has always believed and practiced following the motto: Pets, People and Service, and believes strongly in the human-animal bond.
Dr. Wachter has had many pets including a cow named Betsy. He recently shared his home with a mixed-breed dog named Leo, who showed up one day on his porch and decided to stay. Leo looks tough but has the heart of gold, and helped Johnny (one of Dr. Wachter's children adopted from Romania) overcome his fear of dogs. Leo unfortunately has recently passed away.
